Composite Cross-Laminated Timber Glulam Floors

In collaboration with Fast+Epp, 18-half scale and 12-full scale 2.4 m wide TCC floor segments with a span of 4.6 m and 9.2 m, respectively, were tested to failure under symmetric four-point bending as well as torsional bending. The efficiency of three types of shear connectors: self-tapping screws, steel kerf plates, and proprietary glued-in Holz-Beton-Verbund (HBV) plates were evaluated.

Balloon Shear Wall Testing

In collaboration with Fast+Epp, two-storey balloon-type CLT shear walls were tested with a panel aspect ratio of 3:1 with different steel and wood ledgers under monotonic and quasi-static reversed cyclic loading. Three ledgers were subsequently tested under vertical loading to determine their remaining load-carrying capacity.

Composite Cross-Laminated Timber Glulam Floors

In collaboration with Fast+Epp, bending and vibration tests were conducted on double T-beam floor segments consisting of 3-ply CLT panels and two glulam beams. The composite action was achieved using: 1) self-tapping screws (STS) installed at 45⁰; 2) STS installed at 90⁰; and 3) STS installed at 90⁰ combined with an adhesive bond.
